| Marathon Ministry News for October 2006 (archived) October 17 - THERE'S A NEW TRUCK COMING – We just don't know when, but we are trusting God for his promise on July 23. As of today, we have received $7,890 in designated donations for the new truck. Our cost will be about $32,500 for a $44,000 truck. So, we still need $24,610 in order to buy the truck and once again provide distributions of food and blankets to the poor out in the Appalachia coalfields. We gave away our most recent truck in 2005 to a bible camp in Lake Charles, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. We pray that the Lord would speak to your heart to help us in this special way to help those who are less fortunate. May God bless you as you consider this need. October 9 - SEPTEMBER DISTRIBUTION NUMBERS – In September, we served 89 families consisting of 164 adults and 73 children with food, blankets, and most importantly – the Word of God. The number of families we serve increased 1.14% from August. Four individuals accepted Christ, and three of those got saved at one of our monthly food distributions. The fourth received food from us, but got saved as a result of our Prayer Outreach Ministry (find out more about this blessing in the August 2006 News). Please pray that the Lord continues to send us those in physical and spiritual need and that we will continually be able to meet those needs. - NEW ONLINE GIFT STORE – We have recently opened our online "Gift Store". A button for the Gift Store is located at the top of the website for your convenience, as well as a brand-new “View Cart” button to check out your online shopping cart at any time while you are on our site. Presently, the Resurrection Mug and our Israeli Olive Wood Cross Necklaces are available to order online. More items will be available in the coming weeks. All items are available as gifts for donation. You may also do your window-shopping online and purchase at our physical gift store at the Marathon office in Castlewood, VA to save on shipping costs. All online purchases and credit card transactions are processed and secured through PayPal. - OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH – Show your pastor how much you care by finding a gift at Marathon’s Gift Store, and at the same time, feed the hungry and help the needy. Many of our items make terrific gifts for pastors. We have beautiful Bible Ties, over 80 different styles, at a better price than any Christian bookstore – 1 for $10 or 3 for $25. We have a 3-Vial Set, which includes anointing oil, holy soil, and holy water – all from Israel. Our Resurrection Mug recreates John 3:16 when you put a hot liquid into it. We also have gorgeous hand-carved olive wood items from Israel including Cross Necklaces, Nativity Sets, and Christmas Ornaments. Check out our available items on our online Gift Store. All of our items are also available at our office in Castlewood, VA as well. - CHRISTMAS SHOPPING – Christmas season is soon approaching and Marathon invites you to shop our Gift Store for your Christmas shopping needs. Our items make great gifts for friends and family, while feeding the hungry and helping the needy at the same time. Check out all of our available items on our online Gift Store. You can also drop by our office to see the items in person or make your purchases at our physical Gift Store to save on shipping costs. - COMMUNITY SERVICE – We were just recently approved as a Worksite with the Community Service Program of Southwest Virginia Community Corrections. We will supervise community service workers as they work off service hours given by the court system, normally to cover court costs and fines. We are blessed by the labor provided by this program, and hopefully, we will be a blessing as well for those who come to work by our side. - NEW WEBSITE PAGES – There have been several new pages added to the Marathon site in the past couple weeks. The “Testimonials” page features testimonials from clients we serve, pastors we have worked with, and volunteers that have served with Marathon. The “Prayer List” page features the prayer list from our latest newsletter plus weekly additions to keep the prayer list current. The “Multimedia” page includes everything from the former “Pictures” page plus videos from Marathon activities and events. The “Archive” page features archived news, newsletters, prayer lists, and monthly sermons. The “Donate” page features various ways for you to donate including online donations. The “Ministries & Programs” page will feature the many ministries and programs that God has blessed us with to help the poor and needy. - NEW LINK, GLAMORGAN CHAPEL – Check out a new link on our “Links” page for Glamorgan Chapel in Wise, VA. Glamorgan has welcomed us into their church for special events in support of our mission to bring physical and spiritual aid to those in need. Glamorgan Chapel is pastored by Dr. Greg Sergent.
