Marathon Ministry Newsletter for November 2006 (archived)
So I also address you as Friend,
* * * * * What Are We Really About* * * * * Our story never changes. We strive to be like Jesus. We want to be the same yesterday, today and as long as He allows. Whatever we do here at Marathon Ministries, for all these 20 years, it’s still all about Jesus. When we distribute food or anything else we have a “service” where the word of God is given directly from Scripture. There’s always an invitation to accept Jesus as Savior, and over the years thousands have come to salvation in Christ through this ministry. Recently ten of our clients gave their hearts to Christ. When we go out to speak about our work to the churches or to organizations, we still give all the glory to God for everything that is done. So come what may, here and everywhere we go, it’s still All About Jesus! * * * * * A Word from Chase - It's Still All About Jesus* * * * * On Saturday, September 16, our food distribution day, God showed me what ministry is truly all about. I had the privilege of delivering the message at the 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. distributions. It was the first time I ever spoke at a distribution, the first time I ever delivered a salvation message, and the first time I ever gave an invitation. Honestly, I felt nervous and inadequate. I expected to say a few words, give out the food, and just get the distribution over with as smoothly as possible. God had other plans. One lady accepted Christ at the 10:30 am, and two young men accepted Christ at the 1:30 p.m. God taught me that although distributing food is important and in accordance with scripture, it is not Marathon’s main mission. Our main mission is and always will be to lead souls to Christ. * * * * * Website News* * * * * If you haven’t visited our website: www.marathonministry.org you should and regularly. We now update the news at least every week. Our Gift Store is now on site, with great Christian items available, and more coming. We seek out the finest product and even have some exclusively made for your selection. Consider doing your Christmas shopping at Marathon Ministry. As always, all proceeds go to feed the poor. * * * * * God Still Answers Prayers* * * * * And sometimes He answers faster. The day was October 9th. I prayed early in the morning for blankets to give to the poor this winter. I planned to call the people who gave us blankets last January, but I never got the chance. At about 10:00 AM, Brother Tom Sparks of World Deliverance Ministries called from Jacksonville, Florida. He had talked with Dewey Painter, Director of Mission Harvest Ministries, also in Jacksonville. He could bring us blankets and Gospel tracts in about two weeks. Praise the Lord! On October 23rd, Tom, wife Linda & son T.J. delivered 1,075 brand new blankets to our Distribution Center here in Castlewood. On October 28th we went to Tazewell, Virginia and gave out 492 of the blankets to those in need. * * * * * Blessings In The Mail* * * * * Brother Phil, my Ginna was delighted to get to know you and have a part in your ministry. The trip to Missisippi where we met you has blessed us to this day. I pray you and yours are well. May God continue to bless you. Wayne Smith” (Arkansas) “God bless you my brother. In Christ, Joe Vasques.” (Massachusetts) * * * * * How Are We Doing?* * * * * YTD Through October 31: * * * * * There's a Job Opportunity At Our Headquarters* * * * * We are accepting resumes for the paid position of Office Assistant. This is an excellent chance for an experienced person with excellent office skills to work in a totally Christian environment and enhance the work of the ministry. If you know someone who you think might be appropriate for this position, have them call or send us an up-to-date resume. And be praying for us to find the person who God would have for us. * * * * * There's A New Truck Coming - When?* * * * * We just don’t know when. But we are trusting God for His promise on July 23rd. As of Nov.10 we have received $ 8,100.00 in designated donations for the new truck. The cost will be about $ 32,500 for a $ 44,000 truck. So we still need $ 24,400.00 in order to buy the truck and once again provide distributions of food and blankets to the poor out in the Appalachia coalfields. We pray that the Lord would speak to your heart to help us in this special way to help those who are less fortunate. If you wish to designate a donation just write “TRUCK” on the item line of your check. And may God bless you as you consider this need. * * * * * We Invite You To Visit Us - And Tell Your Friends* * * * * We are well settled into our offices and distribution center on Rte 58A in the Milton Shopping Center. You can even shop here. We have wonderful exclusive Christian gifts available. Do your Christmas shopping here and feed the poor at the same time. You can also order by mail. Use the order form on reverse of this page, and give one to a friend or family member. To order by phone, call 276-762-2378. At the Russell County Fair at Castlewood on September 3rd, a First Prize Blue Ribbon was awarded to Philip for his entry in the agricultural exhibits. The entry was butternut squash. Two were required, and the smaller of his two was three times the size of the next closest entry. Philip says: “I did the planting, I did the watering, but God did the growing. (I Corinthians 3:7) So the Blue Ribbon for First Prize goes to my Jesus.” “Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:11)
