“LIFE IS A MARATHON" (archived)
By: Rev. Philip K. Cooper, November 2006

God gave me 3 words at the Veterans’ Day service in church, “Lest We Forget”.

So I remember my father, a young Russian immigrant serving and injured in WWI. My 4 brothers in WWII. Milton, Army in Panama defending the canal. Russell, Marine in the first landing on Guadalcanal, wounded, then Tulagi, wounded again. Jerry, Marine on Okinawa scarred emotionally for life. Bert, Navy also on Okinawa and Japan, also scarred emotionally for life.

I was too young, enlisted Navy my 17th birthday, 1949. Honorable medical discharge 1950, two days prior to N. Korea invasion of South. A corpsman, 10 of the 12 in my medical unit died in the first 90 days. I tried to get back in but they would not let me, and suffered for years why it happened that way? 32 years later 1982, Jesus found me living in sin, saved me, forgave & cleansed me. 4 years later 1986 called me to serve the poor and to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior. Now I know why God saved my life, to save my soul. He is ever waiting, ever faithful.

Now almost 75, I watch my beloved country wallowing in sin, even many of its leadership, and wonder why God doesn’t take action? I also know He will not wait forever for repentance.

Where is God in America? The freedom for which so many have given their lives allows us to vote in yet another crisis time in our history, “Lest We Forget”.

While this is not political, I must comment.

Satan has divided our country by politics, greed, deceit, lying, worshipping money more than God, even denying Him.

Elected officials of both parties as well as priests and ministers are openly homosexual, without shame, even in God’s house (Jeremiah 32.24), an abomination to God (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Deut. 22:5).

Adultery is rampant among elected officials. God calls these and other sins abominations in 141 verses of Scripture.

Money has corrupted officials to sell out those who depend upon them ( I Timothy 6:10).

John Kerry has betrayed and ridiculed our troops now and since Vietnam. Why? Ted Kennedy allowed a young lady to die and demeans the defending of our country. Why? Bill Clinton dodged the draft, & disgraced the presidency and the white house. Why?

Is our current President perfect? No! Neither has any ever been. But he loves freedom, and desires the same for others who are oppressed, as Jesus called every one of us to do. While no man can control the outcome of war, I believe God is still on our side. I weep for the families of those who have died, as does Mr. Bush. “War is still hell”.

“Lest We Forget”, We are called to pray for God to intervene in our country, to bring the victory to the free and protect us from those who would destroy our principles, our loyalty, and our Judeo-Christian foundations. May we be faithful to honor Him and Him only.

Let’s pray for God to clean out our house.
