Marathon Ministry News for July 2006 (archived)

July 25

- We had our regular monthly food distribution this past Saturday, 22 July 06. We served 45 families with food, blankets, children's clothing, and most importantly - the Word of God. We gave out approximately 2,500 pounds of food and over 100 blankets.

- On Friday 21 July 06, a group of eight girls from the Susan Bundy Girls Home in Lebanon, VA volunteered at Marathon's new Distribution Center. The girls packed boxes in preparation for the food distribution the next day. The ladies who volunteered were Lisa M. (the group coordinator), Chelsie, Tiffany, Lisa D., Kim, Cimarron, Jenny, Cassie, and Ashley. We had a great time at the office getting to know each other and sharing the love of Christ.

July 11

- Our regular food distribution day will switch to the 3rd Saturday starting in August. Previously, the distribution day was on the 4th Saturday. Times stay the same: able-bodied persons at 8 or 10 am, elderly and handicapped may come at 1:30 pm. Please call to schedule an appointment time or if you would like to volunteer.

- We now have a new Food Distribution Center. As of July 1, we are renting the adjoining space to our office in Castlewood, VA. In the new center, one room is filled to overflow capacity with food, one room is filled with more food and blankets, and a third room has filled food boxes ready to give.

- On July 6, Annie Richards of Bristol, TN donated a 30 cubic foot freezer to Marathon, which we filled with meats from the food bank that same day. The freezer is now located in our new Food Distribution Center.

July 1

- The "News" page has been updated to feature current and breaking news. The quarterly newsletter and also the "Monthly Sermon" may be reached through links at the top of the "News" page.

- Our regular food distribution day at our office in the Milton Shopping Center in Castlewood, VA is the 4th Saturday of the month, through July. Able-bodied persons can come at either 8:00 am or 10:30 am. Elderly and handicapped may come at 1:30 pm. We bring a message from God's Word for each group that comes.

- Starting in June, the newsletter will be sent by regular mail quarterly in September, December, March and June instead of monthly. If you wish to receive the newsletter by regular mail or email, visit the "Contact Us" page and let us know by mail, phone, or email.

- We need volunteers at our headquarters in Castlewood, VA. Call, write, or email us if you are interested.
