Marathon Ministry News for December 2006 (archived)

December 27

- CASTLEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL FOOD DRIVES – We have been blessed recently by the students and faculty of Castlewood High School. Two of its student organizations, Youth Alive (a Christian club) and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), held food drives in December for Marathon Ministry. Youth Alive collected food among its members, taking in 73 pounds of food. FBLA conducted a school-wide drive, collecting 889 pounds of food.

- SALVATIONS – Praise God! Nine souls have accepted Christ as Savior this month as a result of this ministry. One young man named Eric, age 8, accepted Christ at our 3rd Saturday Distribution on December 16. Seven young girls and one grandmother got saved at our small Christmas Party for Girls on Friday, December 22. We pray that God sends more lost souls to show them the way of salvation in Christ, all for His glory.

- CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR YOUNG GIRLS – On December 22, we held a small Christmas Party for young girls at our office. A lady in Blountville who collects dolls donated 59 like-new baby dolls to give out to girls for Christmas. We had 15 girls come with their parents and families. We gave each girl two dolls and sent dolls home for young ladies who were sick or had to stay home. We are still giving dolls that were left over from the party. We sang Christmas hymns, ate cookies, and had a wonderful time. Most importantly, we shared the Word of God in a special Christmas message. Seven young girls and one grandmother responded and accepted Christ as Savior. We praise God that salvation came to Earth that blessed Christmas morn.

- TRUCK UPDATE – As of today, we have received $8,500 in designated donations for the new truck. Our cost will be about $32,500 for a $44,000 truck. We started raising money back in July. We still need $24,000 in order to buy the truck and once again provide distributions of food and blankets to the poor in the Appalachia coalfields. We gave away our most recent truck in 2005 to a bible camp in Lake Charles, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Please consider helping us in this special way to help those who are less fortunate. May God bless you as you consider this need.

- BIBLES FOR THE WORLD – I am excited to tell you that in the past two months we have received emails from Pastors in India, Nigeria, Kenya and other African Countries. Devadas Devarapalli, of Grace Outreach Ministries in India has told us of 50,000 people coming to one day’s services. They all ask us to come and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people. We will see what God does about that. They all ask us for Bibles and Bible study materials for those who cannot afford them. And they tell us the need is urgent! So we have already begun a new Marathon Ministry program - “Bibles For The World”. We are asking for used Bibles in very good to excellent condition or new Bibles to send to these poor but faithful Pastors. We already have received about 10 here from volunteers and donors. We are also asking for Bible donors to give $ 5.00 for each Bible they donate for shipping to other countries. If you wish to become part of this new ministry outreach, send the Bibles to:

Marathon Ministry – 19380 Milton Shopping Ctr. US Hwy 58 Castlewood, VA 24224
And mark your check item line: Bibles for the World.
God bless you as you help us to spread the Word of God to the poor!

- CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE – If you still need gifts for people on your list, Marathon has a gift store full of unique Christian items. All of our items are available at our office in Castlewood, VA, and many of the items are also available on our online Gift Store. If you need a gift for a lost individual, the Resurrection Mug makes a great gift and is a powerful witness as well. If you shop with us, you know the money goes to a good Godly cause – feeding the poor in the Appalachia coalfields.

- BIBLE TIES IN GIFT STORE – Our Bible Tie page is now up in the Gift Store. The page features 15 of our most popular Bible Ties, with more coming in the future. Each tie is $10 with $1 S/H, or you can take advantage of our Special Bible Tie Offer – 3 for $25 ($3 S/H), a better deal than any Bible bookstore. Check out this page, and keep us in mind when shopping for special occasions and the holidays.

- NOVEMBER DISTRIBUTION NUMBERS – In November, we served 129 families consisting of 255 adults and 115 children with food, blankets, and most importantly – the Word of God. The number of families we serve increased 26.47%, and the number of people we serve increased 30.74% from October. Please pray that God continues to send us those in physical and spiritual need and that we will continually be able to meet those needs.

- BIBLE DRIVE – We are now collecting new or used Bibles in good condition to give to people who do not own a copy of God’s Word. We will give Bibles to those we serve. We will also send some Bibles to a pastor who has contacted us recently from Nigeria. He is spreading the Gospel, people are accepting Christ, but they don’t have many Bibles. Please drop off any Bibles you would like to donate at our office in Castlewood in the Milton Shopping Center. You may also ship Bibles to us at: Marathon Ministry, P.O. Box 771, Castlewood, VA 24224. Our physical address is: Marathon Ministry, 19380 Milton Shopping Center, US Hwy 58A, Castlewood, VA 24224.

- RESURRECTION MUG COMMERCIAL – We now have a commercial airing on SafeTV on the Sky Angel Network throughout the Christmas season for our exclusive Resurrection Mug. The commercial features Rev. Cooper speaking about Marathon Ministry and our special mug while the mug changes and recreates the true story of the Resurrection. Please pray that God would bless Marathon through this commercial. We are also looking to place Resurrection Mug commercials on other stations as well. Please pray that God would open doors for these other stations also.
