August 29
- GOLF TOURNAMENT POSTPONED
- Our first ever golf tournament, originally scheduled for 6 October
06, will be postponed until a later date. We will hopefully hold
the tournament in Spring 2007. Keep checking the news page for further
details.

- A NEW SISTER NAMED
SYLVIA - We served a lady today named Sylvia with food,
and we ministered to her about the love of Christ. Praise God! She
accepted Christ as her personal saviour. Please pray that Sylvia
will find a church in which she can grow as a new Christian and
that she will continue on the path of righteousness.
- 3RD SATURDAY DISTRIBUTION
- On Saturday, 19 August 06, we served 44 families consisting of
84 adults and 28 children. We also have a special praise for that
day because a young man named Robert, age 19, rededicated his life
to Jesus Christ. He prayed a beautiful prayer in which he shared
how he had turned away from God and wanted to be back in a right
relationship with Christ.
- OUR FIRST ANNUAL GOLF
TOURNAMENT - Marathon will sponsor its first ever golf tournament
on 6 October 06 at the Clear Creek Golf Club in Abingdon, VA. It
will be a time of fellowship and fun. All proceeds will help us
to feed the poor in the Appalachian coalfields. Call the office
(276.762.2378) for details. We are accepting sponsorship from businesses
and individuals in support of this effort which will be acknowledged
in our tournament brochure.
- AT THE FAIRS
- Marathon will have a booth at the upcoming Russell County (Sept.
4-9) and Washington County (Sept. 11-16) Fairs. We will have our
large variety of Christian items available. We will reduce the donation
amounts on most of our Christian items including the Bible Ties,
Israeli Crosses, and unframed "Man of Sorrows" prints
- which will all be $10 each at the Russell County and Washington
County fairs. These donation amounts will only be in effect for
these two fairs. Please consider us when you are buying for family
and friends, so that you can help the needy at the same time. All
proceeds will benefit the poor in the Appalachian coalfields.
- OUR NEEDS -
Phillipians 4:19 says: "But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Please pray
and search with us to fulfill the needs of Marathon Ministry. We
need a box truck to carry tons of food into the poor coalfield
areas. We have recently started a New Truck Fundraising Drive for
that purpose. We need a pickup truck to transport individual
items, appliances, etc. to families who have experienced disaster
and emergencies. We need a large warehouse/distribution center
in the area of Castlewood to serve more people with food, blankets,
needed items, and most importantly - the Word of God. We need more
freezer space to keep food for the needy; chest freezers
work best for our purposes. Thank you for your prayers and your
support.

- NEW PRAYER OUTREACH
MINISTRY - We have started a special new ministry for the
Lord Jesus. On 8 August 06, we initiated our new Prayer Outreach
Ministry. Brother Spencer Foster from Lebanon, VA comes to the office
on Tuesdays and makes phone calls to friends of the ministry to
pray with them, to thank them for their prayers and support for
the needy, and just to talk about Jesus. Spencer is a mighty prayer
warrior, and that’s why he’s here.
So far, he’s been a great blessing to many people. If you
would like him to pray for and with you, just call 276-SO B BEST
(276.762.2378) on a Tuesday morning after 9:30 am.
- NEW TRUCK FUNDRAISING
DRIVE - We have started a fundraising drive for a new truck.
We sent out a letter about this effort last week to all those on
our newsletter mailing list. We need a truck to take loads of food,
blankets, and other needed items into the poor coalfield towns.
We gave away our last truck to a bible camp in Lake Charles, Louisiana,
and that truck is still being used to ferry needed supplies into
the ravaged areas. You can read a special letter about that relief
trip HERE and see pictures of
the trip HERE. We are trying
to raise $32,500 for a brand-new diesel automatic with a 24-foot
box. To date, we have raised $2,830, and we need $29,670 more. If
you would like to help us in this effort so that we may better serve
the needy in the coalfields, please CONTACT
US. If you send a check, please note in the memo line for "New
Truck".
- 2ND THURSDAY DISTRIBUTION
- We distributed food on the 2nd Thursday for the first time this
month. We have added the 2nd Thursday since the number of people
we serve has grown significantly. On Thursday, 10 August 06, we
served 21 families which included 40 adults and 19 children. Each
family was ministered to physically and spiritually.
August 3
- JULY DISTRIBUTION NUMBERS
- In the month of July, we served 64 families total consisting of
164 individuals. Those 64 families included 113 adults and 51 children.
We distributed food, blankets, brand-new kids' clothing. Most importantly,
each family and individual received prayer and the Word of God.
- 5 KIDS SAVED
AT DISTRIBUTION - We held an impromptu
food distribution last Wednesday, 26 July 06, serving 5 families
at 3 pm that afternoon. Rev. Cooper preached a message from God's
word, and 5 children accepted Jesus as their personal Saviour. Their
names are Jacqulyn 8-years-old, Timothy 4, Dakota 9, Joshua 5, and
Christopher 8. Praise God for these brand new additions to His family.
- 2ND DISTRIBUTION DAY
ADDED - The number of families we serve has increased, so
we have added the 2nd Thursday each month (at 8:00 and 10:30 am)
as an additional food distribution day. Our main distribution day
will continue to be the 3rd Saturday of each month - 8:00 and 10:30
am; 1:30 pm for handicapped/elderly only. We still need volunteers
for those days and to pack boxes in preparation for those days.
If you would like to volunteer, please CONTACT
US. |
